Editing header images
Top  Previous  Next
From the Administration Menu, click on Report Manager > Edit header images

A header image can be uploaded containing the schools name, address, logo and any other graphics that the school wishes to display on the header of a report. Alternatively, a blank header can be uploaded to facilitate the use of school headed paper. All reports are created in PDF format.

Uploading a Portrait Image
Check the Upload portrait image radio button > Browse for the relevant image > Click Upload

A portrait image must measure 720x150 pixels and must be a GIF image (Graphics Interchange Format). GIF images have a .gif file extension.

Uploading a Landscape Image
Check the Upload landscape image radio button > Browse for the relevant image > Click Upload

A portrait image must measure 1040x150 pixels and must be a GIF image (Graphics Interchange Format). GIF images have a .gif file extension.

To view the image after uploading click on Browse full size image. A full size image of the newly uploaded header should be displayed (it may be necessary to refresh this window (F5) if an older header image is shown). If the newly uploaded image looks distorted when being viewed at full size it means that the image is not the correct size. Alternatively click on Download portrait/landscape test page to download a PDF document displaying the new header image.

Notes on Creating Good Quality Header Images
When creating a GIF header image it is important to use vector based graphics as the original source, rather than bitmap based graphics. The files received from the designer of the school's logo should be vector graphics files.

Vector
Vector graphics are made up of many individual objects. Each of these objects can be defined by mathematical statements and has individual properties assigned to it such as color, fill, and outline. Vector graphics are resolution independent because they can be output to the highest quality at any scale.

Bitmap
Bitmap-based images are comprised of pixels in a grid. Each pixel or "bit" in the image contains information about the color to be displayed. Bitmap images have a fixed resolution and cannot be resized without losing image quality. Common bitmap-based formats are JPEG, GIF, TIFF, PNG, PICT, and BMP.

Vector based images are best manipulated in Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia FreeHand. To produce good quality image/text for use in a header images it is necessary to export vector images/text at 600dpi (dots per square inch) to a bitmap based program such as Adobe Photoshop or Macromedia Fireworks as a TIFF (Tagged Image File Format). From a bitmap based program the header image can then be saved as a GIF containing images/text at a very high DPI which is suitable for printing. The ICT technician in your school should be able to do this for you. Alternatively we do provided a chargeable service to produce header images.
